I remember that I had to talk Mairi down when I told her I was taking her portrait. I think it’s perfectly understandable as I hate to have my picture taken as well. One of the reasons I find myself behind the camera: I want to take the pictures of people that I would want taken of myself.

On the way back from DC we had a four hour layover. Karen and Liam met us at the airport for lunch and some quick photos before we got back on a plane to finally make it home.

On our very last evening in Washington DC we ventured out to share one last meal and have a visit. J. and E. were super and (super) busy but with the addition of some extra light I was able to get a couple of nice portraits of the both of them.

We took a short break on our East Coast ALA extravaganza to jaunt up to Brooklyn where we visited my sister and her partner Steven. Good times were had, ice cream was eaten. Delicious delicious Oaxacan food was had. Portraits were taken. I loved Brooklyn and would have stayed for another week or two. Although on the other hand I hear it got even more hot and even more muggy after we left so maybe it was for the best.

I can only really say again how great it was to see Emily and Karst and how nice it was for them to allow me to spring portraits on them after such hot, trying day.

Gracious with Surprise

Emily was more than gracious to let me take her picture with no warning (as was her husband) after a long day of waiting for movers and prepping for a multi-state move. Add to that the terrible DC humidity and heat and it just makes me all the more thankful for both their time and good attitudes!
